Course Description

This two-hour workshop introduces psychological safety, examines why it isn't experienced the same way by everyone, and reframes the challenge around the outcome that truly matters: how to foster an environment where the valuable intellectual and experiential capital contained within every employee is able to reach others who need it.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define psychological safety and explain its organizational purpose.

  • Recognize that psychological safety is not experienced the same way by everyone but can be shaped by individual background, team culture, and national or regional culture.

  • Distinguish between "speak up" behavior and the broader organizational outcome psychological safety aims to achieve.

  • Describe at least two practices to help surface employee thinking.

  • Identify one concrete action to take to reduce the interpersonal cost of contributing honest input.
